I’m Daniel Ernst, a cinematographer and colorist based in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. My work spans feature films, series and music videos, with a particular interest in thriller, mystery and horror.
I’m drawn to images that bring us closer to a character’s experience. Light, framing, movement and colour shape how a scene feels, and I enjoy developing that visual language in close collaboration with directors & set designers.
Working in both cinematography and color grading informs my approach from preparation through to the final image. I think about texture, contrast and colour early on, developing a look that begins on set and continues through post-production.
My credits include TRUNK, SCHATTENMOOR and Julien Bam’s DER MANN IM MOND, alongside WISHLIST, which received the Grimme-Preis and Deutscher Fernsehpreis.
Alongside my production work, I teach filmmaking workshops for young people. I’m a member of the German Society of Cinematographers (BVK).
